An Alternative Approach to Your Dog’s Joint Pain

WEEKEND POSTS ARE DEDICATED TO HEALTH AND HEALING. SINCE THIS IS MY 100TH POST ON THIS BLOG, IT SEEMED FITTING TO DEDICATE IT TO MY “HEART DOG” BEN, WHO DIED MANY YEARS AGO AT 14 AFTER LIVING AN AMAZINGLY HEALTHY LIFE. TO BEN, WHO STILL OWNS MY HEART.RED HEART

Ben, in his 'Yesteryears'

Ben was a shelter rescue — at the ripe old age of 5 weeks. The note on his cage said he was a “stray,” and that there were no other dogs with him when he was picked up. Ben was still little enough that he could barely walk or focus his eyes, so I ask you: How could such a tiny, uncoordinated baby end up as a “stray.” I think there was some monkey business going on regarding his case.

But no matter. If that is how he was meant to come into my life, then it was an amazing blessing.

Ben, like every other unidentifiable black dog, was labeled a “Lab mix.” We never figured out what mix that might have been because he was always a little short for his weight and was shaped like a nice, fat hog. Literally. but boy was he healthy!

Being the minimalist I am when it comes to drugs and vaccines, Ben didn’t darken the doorstep of a single vet clinic after he was neutered and had had all his shots. He was never once sick, and besides, he did exactly what he wanted to do all the time so didn’t even walk on a leash. It would have been pure dee h_ _ _ to get him into a vet’s office!

In the twilight of his lifetime, like many older large-breed dogs, Ben did start exhibiting pain and stiffness in his rear end. Naturally he was slowing down, but I could tell he hurt too.

So did we go to the vet? Nooooooooo, not Leta and Ben. I was fortunate to have been introduced years before to a human anti-oxidant nutritional product called Super Sprouts and Algae, manufactured by Simplexity Health (formerly Cell Tech) and knew that it had been rigorously tested on old, arthritic dogs before being put on the open market. Since most arthritis is a result of free radical damage, and anti-oxidants are what clean up free radicals, it seemed a natural choice for Ben’s treatment.

sprouts_prodAs recommended, I started Ben on a very high level of the Sprouts — about 5 per day, given all at once — because quelling free radical inflammation is kind of like putting out a forest fire: it takes a lot of water all at once up front, then the little flare-ups can be contained with the bucket brigade. Within days Ben was back to his old, perky self, hopping and skipping and playing with the other dogs. After about two weeks I was able to drop down to a maintenance dose of one or two per day, and any time I sensed a flare-up I would simply increase the amount for a few days until Ben was fit as a fiddle again.

Based on this experience, I have recommened the Super Sprouts and Algae innumerable times to clients whose dogs were having similar problems, often enabling them to come off of dangerous drugs like steroids and arthritis medications. And the bonus of using this supplement is that the added super-nutrition it provides gives an amazing boost to the immune system.

Ben died in the middle of the night, as peacefully and untroubled as he had lived his life. I think his heart just finally gave out and he sailed away without a sign of struggle, curled up cozily in his favorite sleeping place in my bathroom. I had no warning, he was just gone. He had never missed a meal, or a walk, or a snuggle, and I give the Super Sprouts and Algae most of the credit for his exceptional condition in those last few years.

If you have an older dog with arthritis, or any animal with joint problems, including yourself, I hope you’ll try Super Sprouts and Algae. I’m not claiming it’s a panacea for all that ails you, but it will at least lend a super nutritional boost, which makes healing all the easier.
