Health & Wealth for Humans and Their Animals

What It Really Means to Have an “Open Heart”

Many do not believe in an afterlife. And even if they do, most believe it is not possible to talk to those who have departed… certainly not animals. But for those of you who do believe in such things I am happy to share this wonderful message from “Easter,” a huge equine spirit who was comforting her beloved human, Kate, whom she had to leave behind in this world not long ago. Kate read Easter’s message and was so deeply moved by it that she urged me to share it with others… just in case it might comfort someone else who is grieving for a lost loved one. What follows are Easter’s exact words taken from our animal communication session. Thank you, Kate, for sharing them.

Tell Kate that I too, miss our physical closeness. Very much. We were of one heart, always. But we still are, just in a different way now. And if she can feel my presence when she looks at my picture, she must only feel the love between us, and not the heartache of the moment. Tell her that will pass. My gift to her is to learn to live with an open heart, as I did. That is why we were together. So when she has a question about how to feel about any given situation, just think of me and how I would respond. It is hard to go through life with hearts as big as ours, but being vulnerable is the key to living well.

Kate, it is through your open heart that you will thrive with Miss Aggie (a new horse). And keeping her in your life is an example of how you have opened yourself to love, not resentment and bitterness. This event* could have turned your whole life toward bitterness and negativity, but instead you chose to embrace love. An open heart comes with a lot of pain, and you have had more than your share.

I guess what I am trying to say is that it’s like a paradox: an open heart is entirely subject to pain and grief and feels emotions very intensely. But because it is open it is truly able to feel love and compassion. The other side of this is that pain can close a heart, out of protection. That may seem helpful in a way, but the awful outcome is that one then becomes shut down to love and compassion. Do you understand?

* Easter was well into her old age when she suffered an irreparable internal injury resulting from a kick from jealous “Miss Aggie,” Kate’s new young mare. As you might imagine, the emotional repercussions for Kate due to the nature of this event were horribly confusing, and she struggled hard to keep from hating Miss Aggie and possibly getting rid of her. Miss Aggie had had her own devastating past when she lost her beloved human to cancer, and her entire personality changed because of it. She was just beginning to really bond with Kate and to trust someone fully again when this unfortunate incident occurred.

As sad and difficult as things have been, for both Kate and Miss Aggie, I think Easter sees the big picture and may hold the Keys to the Kingdom of Paradise and Happiness! I was honored to be a part of this healing process and hold great hopes for Kate and her new mare, Miss Aggie (who, besides being fancy-pants beautiful, knows how to do dozens of tricks her previous person taught her, which everyone left behind… until Kate came along).

Kate and Miss Aggie... on the road to healing.

You go, girls!!
